Mating season is up and running again!

The kiddies school holiday is up and running again. That means got to stay away from shopping malls, theme parks and cinemas. Its gonna be jam pack with school kids and their parents. This also NOT the best time for vacations. The rates gonna be reaching the roof! And, plus what's the point of r & r if the whole freaking beach is filled with screaming kids. Besides the annoyance of jam pack capacity, school holiday also means the mating season are on again. These are the times for foreigners to experience local weddings, and for us locals to get excuses to eat more of those delicious 'nasi minyak'. For the down side of this 'faux-fabulous' season, this is when you discovered most main roads in your housing area are blocked by a huge freaking tent, and if your neighbor is getting hitch, even worst, the area near your house suddenly will be flooded with cars. Leaving you cursing to yourself in the car alone trying to get home.

Note to self: Avoid doing wedding at your own house, and during school holidays. That's what weekends and public holidays are for.

In a lighter and happier note, me and my sister had a road trip to Ipoh last weekend to attend my sister friend's wedding. It is our first time in the lovely state. But the thing that cramming our style is the massive traffic jams at the highway. The jams were not caused by road accidents or in-coming traffic, it was simply caused by idioitics that wanted to change lanes to over take the slow heavy vehicles. What a drama. That annoying antics, caused our road trip close to 3 hours before safely reaching the destination (thanks GPS!). Due to that, I've lost my mind while on the way and back, and my sister cramped her right leg.

Note to self: Next time when decided to go for a road trip for more than 3 hours drive, don't do it during school holidays and make stops to rest. Even better, just fly by plane to the destination.

Along the way, we have the lovely scenary to calm us down -God's creation is so majestic. Here's a video:

Oh, along the way, we spotted some unusual phenomena at the highway; we saw hitchhikers!
Seriously! I was like; "What the hell are these 4 Chinese/Japanese ladies doing at the side of the highway!?OMG! There are hitching for a ride!" Yes, the lovely tourist - all ladies, with their massive backpacks were doing that hand sign to hitch a ride. Well, we thought since it is unusual, I thought people didn't bother to give any ride to them, but I guess someone did. Cause after passing them for half an hour, we were stuck a light jam caused by these 4 girls, now that the highway turned into 2 lanes, people on the road got a better view of them hitchhiking. Plus, now that I thought of it, isn't it illegal to hitchhike in Malaysia? Or is there no such rules?

While on the way, I had to pee so bad, so my sister dropped me by at Shell station. It was decent, but one person troubled me most. This old lady, old enough to be my grandmother, she was lining up for to the toilet, if I was the people lining up, I would let her go ahead first. Plus, she doesn't have anyone to assist her. Where the hell is her cucu or daughter? Aish, sungguh kesian.

Note to self: Never leave your old man or women behind, always take good care of her! Or you'll be sorry!

After more than 2 hours of driving, we know that we arrived in Ipoh when we saw this huge sign up the hill:

Thought we trust the map attached to the wedding invitation because it seemed simple enough, but, oh, how wrong we were. That map turned into a tiny adventure. Let just say we got lost driving around the Ipoh. So, after a few minutes of play ride, we decided to follow the GPS after all. Though, we drove into people's kampung, safe to say, we arrived at our destination. Thanks British-talking GPS!

Note to Self: Try to avoid marrying some dude from up north or other states in the Peninsular besides Selangor, if not, every festive season, you'll have to endure this once again. Choose a partner that you can FLY to his hometown. Save time and energy.

After devouring the yummy food at the wedding, we took a ride around town - with the help from the GPS, of course! We thought of searching for the authentic coffee experience at ANY local kopitiam. Sadly, by the looks of it, the place was not what you would grade 'A' for cleaniness.
So, after 2 failures of scouring the area. We ditched the idea, and decided to settle for Old Town kopitiam near the Ipoh padang. Assumably, it was the first Old Town branch. It settled in a old building and with peranakan deco. Lovely.

Ipoh kinda took us by surprised. The town is clean, and the architecture was in between of Colonial and peranakan. Totally, swooning over it.

All in all, the trip was fine. I make it home alive to write it in this blog.

Note to self: A short adventure to an unknown place will do u good.
